HEALING FROM TRAUMA:
INDIVIDUALS, CULTURES
AND SYSTEMS

BRONX PSYCHIATRIC CENTER CONFERENCE
OCTOBER 25, 2006

In recent years we have become aware of the long term and multifaceted impact trauma has on individuals and communities. How do we as a society, as a system,
as a family and as individuals respond to traumatized persons? Is there a different response depending on the kind of traumatic events and of persons afflicted? How
will this response affect healing? What is healing? What factors are involved that will hinder healing? What fosters healing? Does healing take place in a multitude of
different ways: individually, in a family, in a group, in a community, in a system?
In this conference we will explore some of these connections and hope to gain a
deeper understanding of the complexities and intricacies that affect healing from trauma.
