Derek H. Suite, M.D., M.S.
 

Dr. Suite is a board certified psychiatrist and functions as the Northeast and
Mid-Atlantic Regional Representative for the Black Psychiatrists of America (BPA). 
Dr. Suite has spent most of his professional career promoting and providing culturally-competent, spiritually sensitive mental health care to children and families living in urban communities.  He is the co-founder, president, and medical director of an award winning, multidisplinary community mental health practice, Full Circle Health, PLLC, which was recently featured in Black Enterprise Magazine.  Under the direction of Dr. Suite, Full Circle Health has been contracted to provide professional evaluations, mental health consultation, and direct clinical services for numerous organizations including, the Bronx Family Court,  the Center for Court Innovation Juvenile Accountability Program (JAC),  the Jewish Child Care Association (JCCA),  Inwood House,  Leake & Watts,  Headstart Programs,. Safe Space, Safe Home, Mott Haven Community Services, and the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton.

Under Dr. Suite’s teaching and clinical leadership, Full Circle Health has also gained recognition as a multidisciplinary mental health field education site for graduate and post graduate, social work, psychology medical and pastoral counseling  interns from various academic institutions including, New York University’s, Fordham’s and Yeshiva’s Graduate Schools of Social Work; Columbia University’s and Dartmouth University’s  Medical Schools; Princeton Theological Seminary, the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling/Nyack University and The White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology.

Dr.Suite  is also Chairman of the Full Circle Life, Marriage & Family Enrichment Center, Inc., a not for profit devoted to eliminating healthcare disparities, stigma, and mistrust through providing culturally syntonic, wholistic health and wellness education programs to underserved communities, and to the agencies that serve them. The Enrichment Center, under Dr. Suite’s leadership, has received funding from the RobinHood Foundation, the Red Cross, the Casey Foundation and WorldVision and has provided training and technical assistance in the application of faith-based mental health for over 150 churches and faith-based organizations.  Along with Full Circle Health, the Life Enrichment Center has received numerous citations and proclamations from federal and state authorities.

A member of the Academy of Occupational and Organizational Psychiatry, Dr. Suite was invited by the US Department of Treasury/Internal Revenue Services to create and implement an agency wide post traumatic stress management program and to lead a select team of clinicians who provided 5 months trauma recovery and resiliency training to mission critical federal workers at ground zero post 9/11..Dr. Suite received the prestigious Commissioner’s Award for this effort and was invited to present a poster on Wholistic Approaches To Post Traumatic Disaster Stress in Federal Employees and their Families at 2nd International Congress of Disaster Psychiatry, hosted at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.  He is currently a senior member of the National All Hazards Mental Health Association, which is working to help meet the long term mental health needs of families affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Dr. Suite has appeared as guest expert on national television and radio and has been published in numerous periodicals including, The New York Times.   Dr. Suite earned his Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Science degrees from Columbia College and Columbia University in New York and his Medical Degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Suite married his college sweetheart, Darcel. Together, they lead and direct Full Circle’s activities.
